HARRISBURG — Sen. Judy Ward (R-30), chair of the Senate Transportation Committee, announced today that Blair county will receive more than $460,000 in state funding through the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s (PennDOT) Automated Red-Light Enforcement (ARLE) grant program to improve traffic safety and accessibility at key intersections.
“This investment will make Altoona’s roads safer and more accessible for drivers and other roadway users,” said Ward. “I’m pleased to see Blair County benefit from this program and look forward to seeing these improvements completed.”
The City of Altoona will receive $464,905 to upgrade traffic signals at the intersection of Pleasant Valley Boulevard and 27th Street/Duff Drive, a heavily traveled corridor in the city.
The ARLE program funds projects that enhance safety, improve mobility and reduce congestion at signalized intersections. Funding is generated through fines collected from red-light violations in Philadelphia and reinvested statewide in traffic safety improvements.
