Ward, Stambaugh Announce Nearly $3.7 Million for Port Royal Wastewater Treatment Plant

HARRISBURG – Sen. Judy Ward (R-30) and Rep. Perry Stambaugh (R-86) today announced Port Royal residents will benefit from nearly $3.7 million in state funds to upgrade the municipal wastewater treatment plant.

“This funding provides for much-needed wastewater treatment facility improvements that will increase the quality of life for the surrounding community,” Ward said. “Low-interest loans like this from PENNVEST allow for rural municipalities like Port Royal to make necessary upgrades to critical infrastructure without additional financial burden.”

The project will upgrade the wastewater treatment plant by installing an ultraviolet disinfection system, updating computer technology systems and making other improvements. Pump stations also will be rehabilitated and one will be rerouted.

“Upgrades to the wastewater system in Port Royal will ensure residents are well served for decades to come,” Stambaugh said. “Reliable, high-functioning infrastructure makes our communities more livable.”

Funding for the project includes a loan for nearly $2.4 million and an additional $1.3 million in funds that will not have to be repaid. The 20-year loan carries a 1% interest rate.

Funding for the project is being provided through the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST). PENNVEST is an independent state agency that provides financial assistance for sewer, stormwater and drinking water projects in communities across the commonwealth.
