Ward Announces $4.3 million in Funding for Wastewater Treatment at DelGrosso Foods Plant in Northern Blair County

HOLLIDAYSBURG – State Sen. Judy Ward (R-30) today announced $4.3 million in state funding has been awarded for a wastewater treatment project at the DelGrosso Foods plant in northern Blair County.

Wastewater from the DelGrosso Foods plant requires pretreatment due to its production of sauces – primarily alfredo and queso – which contain dairy products. The fats and greases present in the discharge are problematic for the Northern Blair County Regional Sewer Authority.

The project calls for the installation of 790 feet of conveyance, a pump station, a 200,000-gallon tank, a strainer system and a dissolved air flotation system capable of treating 200,000 gallons per day.

“Large plants like this often require enhanced systems to treat wastewater before it reaches the local treatment facility,” Ward said. “Upgrades like these can be costly, especially when businesses are already navigating a tough economy. These dollars will help to prevent clogs and preserve the collection system while allowing this major employer to operate its plant effectively, employing workers and contributing to the local economy.”

The project is estimated to cost $4.3 million, which the state is providing in the form of a low-interest loan. The interest rate for the loan for the first five years will be 1.743%, increasing to 2.179% in year six until the loan is paid in full.

The funding was approved by the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST). PENNVEST is an independent agency of the Commonwealth providing low-cost financial assistance to fund construction of drinking water, sewer and stormwater projects in communities throughout Pennsylvania.
