HARRISBURG – A grant announced by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) today will help reduce travel hazards around Rio Grande Street in Three Springs Borough, according to Senator Judy Ward (R-30).
The $197,610 grant will address runoff issues impacting the intersection of Rio Grande and Hudson Streets, including the installation of two new inlets, storm sewer extension to Spring Creek to eliminate ponding, and the installation of sidewalk and ADA ramps.
The project will reduce the risk of flooding at the community pool, while also improving pedestrian access to the ballfields and new playground. Grade changes in the area will also improve access for emergency vehicles responding to incidents in the area.
“This grant will achieve a number of important goals to address known travel hazards in the area to better protect local motorists, pedestrians and first responders,” Ward said. “Reducing the occasional flooding in the area and making it more accessible will have benefits for the entire community.”
This intersection, plus the drainage system and sidewalks, have needed attention for quite a while,” said Charles Harper, Three Springs Borough Council President. “This is a highly needed project and we are very happy for this help.”
The funding was distributed through PennDOT’s Multimodal Transportation Fund, which provides grants for a wide variety of projects to ensure that a safe and reliable system of transportation is available to Pennsylvanians.
