Ward Announces $2.2 Million for Huntingdon County Water Quality Improvement Project

State Assistance for Local Projects

HARRISBURG — Sen. Judy Ward (R-30) today announced a $2.2 million Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) grant to improve water infrastructure at Way-Lynn Farm in Huntingdon County.

“This funding is a win for our agricultural community,” said Ward. “These improvements at Way-Lynn Farm will help a local family farm prevent nutrient run-off and protect Little Aughwick Creek. This investment will help our family farms continue to operate while also protecting our natural resources.”

This funding will be used to remove the old earthen manure lagoon, and build a new concrete manure storage facility, underground manure storage system and a waste transfer pipeline at the Way-Lynn dairy farm in Springfield Township.

The project is expected to significantly improve local water quality by reducing the risk of manure and wastewater reaching nearby waterways.

Once completed, the project will result in the annual removal of 1,562 pounds of nitrogen, 41 pounds of phosphorus and 9,810 pounds of sediment from entering Little Aughwick Creek.

PENNVEST is an independent state agency that provides financial assistance for sewer, storm water and drinking water projects in communities across the commonwealth. Its financing is provided through the use of federal funding and prior bond issues by the state as well as proceeds from the Marcellus Shale Impact Fee legislation, Act 13 of 2012.
