Ward Announces Private First Class James A. Behe Memorial Bridge Unveiling in Blair County

HOLLIDAYSBURG – Sen. Judy Ward (R-30) today announced the unveiling of the Private First Class (PFC) James A. Behe Memorial Bridge in Altoona, Blair County.

Private First Class James Behe exemplified a life of service, dedication and honor,” said Ward. “This designation serves to honor that legacy and ensure that it is remembered.”

PFC James A. Behe was a member of the Army’s 80th Infantry Division. In September of 1944, while serving his country, he was captured and held as a prisoner of war at Stalag VII-A in Moosburg, Germany, until April of 1945 when he was liberated by the 101st Airborne Band of Brothers.

He was awarded the EAME Campaign Ribbon with two Bronze Battle Stars for Gallantry, Rhineland Campaign, Northern France Campaign, Army Good Conduct Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, WWII Victory Medal, POW Medal and a Purple Heart.

He was discharged from the Army in September 1945 and returned to civilian life, starting his own business, Behe Brothers Plumbing and Heating in Altoona, Pennsylvania.

“My dad’s service to our country had a big impact on our family, and we are proud of his service,” said Dave Behe. “We are honored to have this bridge named in his honor. My dad earned every letter on that sign.”

The bridge is located on Wopsononock Avenue over Spring Run.
