Ward: District Awarded More Than $2.3 Million in Rail Grants to Strengthen State’s Freight Network

HARRISBURG – Sen. Judy Ward (R-30) announced today the Pennsylvania State Transportation Commission has approved more than $2.3 million for two key rail infrastructure projects in the district.

SEDA-COG Joint Rail Authority in Blair, Centre and Clinton counties was awarded $2,100,000 for a bridge bundling initiative to modernize multiple structures, ensuring long-term efficiency and connectivity for rural communities.

Everett Railroad in Blair County was awarded $285,599 for a critical bridge rehabilitation project to enhance safety and reliability for freight operations in the region.

“These investments are vital to sustaining Pennsylvania’s rail network and supporting industries that rely on efficient freight transportation,” said Ward, chair of the Senate Transportation Committee. “By strengthening these corridors, we are fostering economic development and improving safety for communities across the commonwealth.”

The funding was awarded through the Rail Freight Assistance Program and Rail Transportation Assistance Program, which provide financial support for rail infrastructure improvements that improve freight movement and reduce highway congestion.
