Ward, Irvin Announce First Responder Loan Award

HOLLIDAYSBURGSen. Judy Ward (R-30) and Rep. Rich Irvin (R-81) today announced the awarding of more than $260,000 in low-interest loan funding to Huntingdon Regional Fire and Rescue in Huntingdon County through the Office of the State Fire Commissioner’s State Fire & Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Loan Assistance Program.

“Reliable and effective rescue and pump trucks are vital to the success of our fire companies and are often a significant expense,” said Ward. “At a time when fire companies across Pennsylvania are navigating difficult financial situations, this low-interest loan will allow Huntingdon Regional Fire and Rescue to continue its good work of keeping their community safe without negatively impacting their financial sustainability.”

The program offers a fixed 2% interest rate to fire and EMS companies for the acquisition, rehabilitation, or improvement of apparatus, facilities, and equipment. It is open all year to any career or volunteer fire company or EMS in the state. The low-interest loan funding secured through this award will be used to further the mission of providing emergency services. Specifically, the funding must be used for the purchase of a 2017 heavy duty rescue and pump truck.

“This is a vital program for our Commonwealth fire companies,” said Irvin. “This low-interest funding will help them afford a vehicle they need to continue delivering exceptional service to area communities. I have and will continue to support programs and funding that support our vital emergency service organizations.”
