HOLLIDAYSBURG – Sen. Judy Ward (R-30), Rep. Kerry Benninghoff (R-171), Rep. David Rowe (R-85), and Rep. Perry Stambaugh (R-86) today announced the awarding of more than $460,000 in funding to local fire departments and emergency medical services in Juniata and Mifflin Counties through the Office of the State Fire Commissioner’s Fire Company and Emergency Medical Service Grant Program.
“These annual grant awards support the needs of our Fire and EMS providers so they are equipped to help those who call on them in times of desperate need,” said Ward. “Our first responders play such a vital role, especially in our rural communities, and are appreciated for their dedication and hard work.”
“Ever-increasing demands on our first responders mean they are fundraising, training and doing administrative work in addition to helping people in crisis,” said Benninghoff said. “These grants are a small way of easing those burdens and showing gratitude to the dedicated men and women who tirelessly serve our communities.”
“Our firefighters and emergency medical responders put their lives on the line every day to keep our communities safe,” said Rowe. “These grants will ensure they have the tools, training, and resources they need to do their jobs effectively. I am proud to support this critical funding and remain committed to getting our first responders the support they deserve.”
“Our dedicated first responders have more demands on their time than ever before,” Stambaugh said. “The same people fighting fires or responding to EMS calls in our communities are often overwhelmed with fundraising, doing extensive paperwork, undergoing training, or tackling additional administrative tasks. These grants provide a small way to help ease those pressures and express our gratitude.”
