Ward, Benninghoff Announce More Than $1,600,000 in Grant Funding for Mifflin County

HARRISBURG – Sen. Judy Ward (R-30) and Rep. Kerry Benninghoff (R-171) today announced that the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP) granted more than $1,600,000 to Mifflin County for a community revitalization initiative.

“It was a pleasure to lend my support toward these important Mifflin County projects,” Ward said. “The Mifflin County Historical Courthouse is incredibly important to the community and is currently home to the Juniata River Valley Chamber of Commerce, Juniata River Valley Visitors Bureau and the Mifflin County Historical Society. These much-needed improvements will only help to make these buildings better and safer for the community.”

“These are competitive grants, and we applaud county officials for successfully pursuing this funding,” said Benninghoff. “I know many members of the community are anxious for the library to open again in the new year and we’re all looking forward to seeing the renovations they’ve made as they continue to serve Mifflin County.”

The project will focus on two key assets within downtown Lewistown. The first is the Mifflin County Historic Courthouse, and the second is the Mifflin County Library. The County owns both assets. The funds will be used to make non-structural improvements, including upgrades to the mechanical, electrical, plumbing and ventilation/airflow systems.

RACP, a $3.1 billion program administered through the Office of the Budget, provides grants for development projects that boost the economic, civic, cultural, recreational or historical value of the surrounding community.
