Ward, Benninghoff Announce More Than $6.4 Million for Bratton Township Wastewater Treatment Plant

HARRISBURG – Sen. Judy Ward (R-30) and Rep. Kerry Benninghoff (R-171) today announced Bratton Township residents will benefit from more than $6.4 million in state funds that have been awarded to upgrade the community’s wastewater treatment plant.

“Clean water and efficient water treatment is one of the most vital needs a community has,” Ward said. “This PENNVEST funding will help Bratton Township continue to provide this necessary service and create a clean and safe community for its residents.”

The project will fund upgrades at the township’s wastewater treatment plant and pump station improvements. The treatment plant upgrades call for the construction of a new building to screen incoming wastewater and the installation of new wastewater treatment tanks. The money also will help replace the existing ultraviolet disinfection system. Two pump stations also will be replaced.

“The award by PENNVEST will allow residents to avoid an 180% increase in user fees,” said Benninghoff. “This is an extensive but much-needed overhaul in the township’s infrastructure, in addition to being a necessary investment in the health and safety of our community.”

Funding for the project includes a loan for more than $900,000 and an additional nearly $5.5 million in funds that will not have to be repaid. The 20-year loan carries a 1% interest rate.

Funding for the project is being provided through the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST). PENNVEST is an independent state agency that provides financial assistance for sewer, stormwater and drinking water projects in communities across the commonwealth.
