HARRISBURG – State Sen. Judy Ward (R-30) and Rep. Rich Irvin (R-81) today announced more than $385,000 in state grant funding has been awarded for water and sewer infrastructure projects in Huntingdon County.
“The recent Commonwealth Financing Authority grant awards are welcome news for me, Representative Irvin, and the Huntingdon County communities affected,” Ward said. “The awarded municipalities can be assured they will have the financial resources needed for these important infrastructure projects and will continue to be able to provide clean, safe and effective water services to their communities.”
Broad Top City Water Authority has been awarded a more than $225,000 grant to refurbish a water storage tank.
Mapleton Municipal Water Authority will receive nearly $160,000 to improve its reservoir located in Union Township.
“This funding is essential to enable continued safe, secure and reliable water service to area customers,” Irvin said. “Projects like these are vital to community health, which is why I advocated for these grants.”
The grants were awarded by the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA). The CFA was created in 2004 as an independent agency of the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development to administer the commonwealth’s economic stimulus packages.
Funding for these projects is being provided through federal COVID-19 ARPA funds administered through the PA Small Water and Sewer (SWS) Program.
The SWS Program provides grants for small water, sewer, and storm water infrastructure projects. Municipalities and municipal authorities that own and maintain a public water supply, sanitary sewer or storm water systems are eligible to apply as long as their projects exceed a total cost of $30,000.
