Senator Judy Ward Plan to Allow Carry-Out Beer, Malt Beverages for Private Club Members Clears Senate Committee

(HARRISBURG) – A bill by Senator Judy Ward (R-30) that will allow private clubs with liquor licenses to offer carry-out beer and malt beverages to members in limited quantities passed the PA Senate Law and Justice Committee today.

Senate Bill 194 would permit a club license holder to sell malt or brewed beverages in limited quantities (6 packs; not more than 192 fluid ounces) to members for carry out. No sales of malt beverages can take place between 2 a.m. and 7a.m.

“Like restaurants and taverns, our local clubs have been significantly impacted by the pandemic,” Senator Ward said. “These clubs serve an important role in our neighborhoods creating a sense of community as members gather and sponsoring baseball teams and more. This measure would go a long way in helping them keep their doors open and maintain their role in the community.”

Last year, the General Assembly approved, and Governor Wolf signed into law, Act 21 to enable restaurants and taverns to sell prepared beverages and mixed drinks for off-premise consumption in order to help their businesses.

The bill will now move to the full Senate for consideration.
