Local Schools Receive Grants to Keep Students Learning During COVID-19

HARRISBURG – Three grants awarded by the state today to help local students continue their studies while school buildings remain closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, according to Senator Judy Ward (R-30).

Grants were awarded to Spring Cove School District, Appalachia IU 8 and Tuscarora IU 11 through the Continuity of Education Equity Grant program administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.

“Rural school districts like ours are hit the hardest by the pandemic. It is extremely difficult to fill the gaps in education when our schools and students don’t have the same resources as larger districts,” Ward said. “I am thankful that these grants will help close some of those gaps in our area and ensure students can continue to keep up with their studies as we navigate through these uncertain times.”

Grant can be used to purchase computer equipment or other instruction tools for students. Schools with the highest percentages of students lacking access to resources were given priority in receiving these grants.
