Senator Ward Applauds Rollback of Federal Regulations Limiting Foster Care, Adoption

HARRISBURG – Senator Judy Ward (R-30) applauded action by President Trump today to roll back regulations that limited foster care and adoption opportunities in Pennsylvania and nationwide.

Ward was one of 12 Pennsylvania Senate Republicans who sent a letter to President Trump in September urging him to rollback federal regulations put in place by President Obama that were being used by Governor Tom Wolf and his administration to limit opportunities for faith-based agencies to participate in adoption and foster care services.

President Trump reversed the Obama-era rule today to ensure faith-based organizations are no longer restricted and are permitted to serve their communities in a way that is consistent with their religious beliefs.

“Young people in the foster care and adoption system are some of the most vulnerable children in the entire state. The ability of faith-based organizations to help these children should not be compromised due to political ideology,” Ward said. “Today’s decision is a win not only for faith-based organizations, but also for all of the young people who will find loving homes and families as a result of this decision.”

The letter that Ward and 11 other Pennsylvania Senate Republicans sent to the White House is available here.
