Why We March: Pennsylvania March for Life

On Monday, I joined thousands of Pennsylvanians, including many folks from my district at the fifth annual Pennsylvania March for Life! I was honored to speak to the crowd of pro-life advocates and provide an update from the Senate.

Life is a precious gift from God. And that is why we need to do all we can to protect it. That is why we march, and that is why the Pennsylvania March for Life matters. In a culture that seems to increasingly promote the self and devalue the sacred, what we are doing here is even more important.

Through the advocacy and grassroots efforts of you in your communities and the work we as elected officials do through the legislative process, we can work towards a Pennsylvania that values the sanctity of life. As we gathered as pro-life advocates, we draw renewed energy for these challenging times, and we reflect on the basic truth that inspires the pro-life cause.

That every human life, including the unborn, is beautiful, has unique dignity and is worthy of protection. As we marched in support of this truth, let us be encouraged and strengthened in our cause.

Remembering Three Police Officers Killed in the Line of Duty

Three police officers were killed and two wounded serving a warrant Sept. 17 in York County, a heartbreaking reminder of the risk faced every day by those standing on the thin blue line between order and chaos.

The fallen officers, Detective Mark Baker, Sgt. Detective Cody Becker and Detective Isaiah Emenheiser, were members of the Northern York County Regional Police Department. Their shocking deaths highlight how crucial it is to stand behind law enforcement officers and give them the tools and support they need to serve communities in the safest manner possible.

May their families find comfort in this incredibly trying time.

PA Treasurer Announces Short-Term Funding for Head Start, County Services

The Pennsylvania Treasury Department will make $500 million available for Pennsylvania’s Head Start providers and county governments, helping to keep essential services funded while the 2025-26 state budget is finalized.

The funds will be distributed via short-term, investment loans which recipients will be required to pay back following enactment of a state budget. Treasurer Stacy Garrity said that to be eligible for this program, Head Start providers and county governments must indicate the investment will be used for immediate operating expenses.

More information is available from the Pennsylvania Treasury Department.

Representative Jerry A. Stern Memorial Highway

September 18, 2025, was a special day in Morrisons Cove.

Friends, family and colleagues of the late Representative Jerry Stern gathered for a special ceremony to dedicate State Route 164 as the “Representative Jerry A. Stern Memorial Highway.”

I had the honor of succeeding Jerry in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives after his 24 years of dedicated service to this community. He was not only a public servant, but also a mentor to me and so many others. His legacy of leadership, integrity and devotion to Blair County will continue to inspire all who knew him—and now, serve as a visible reminder to everyone who travels this stretch of road.

This meaningful tribute was made possible by legislation sponsored by State Representative Scott Barger, who now represents the 80th District.

September is Hunger Action Month

September is Hunger Action Month and my legislative district offices across the 30th District will be accepting donations of unexpired, non-perishable food items. All donations collected will be given to local food banks in our communities. We greatly appreciate your support!

Transportation Committee Tours Western PA

As Majority Chair of the Senate Transportation Committee, I joined a legislative delegation to the “City of Bridges” for a transportation joint committee tour.

The legislators convened informational meetings and tours with the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, Port of Pittsburgh Commission, Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission, Pittsburgh International Airport, FedEx Grounds and Carvana. A multitude of programs and projects throughout Southwestern Pennsylvania were presented to improve traffic conditions, intermodal connections and business development.

Resource for New Moms: Maternal Mental Health Hotline

New moms can experience mental health challenges during or after pregnancy. Some common signs of postpartum depression are:

  • Feeling sad or hopeless most of the time.
  • Having no interest in things you used to enjoy.
  • Not caring for yourself as well (dressing, showering).
  • Trouble focusing.
  • Not managing daily chores.
  • Sleeping or eating too much or too little.

Call or text the Maternal Mental Health Hotline at 833-TLC-MAMA (1-833-852-6262) for free, confidential support 24/7. Find out more here.
