PENNVEST Selects Blair County Projects for Financing, Gregory, Ward Say

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) has approved funding for four water system projects in Blair County, according to Rep. Jim Gregory (R-Blair) and Sen. Judy Ward (R-Blair/Cumberland/Franklin/Fulton/Huntingdon).

The PENNVEST board this week approved $2.5 million in grants and loans for a new water main in Hollidaysburg; almost $1.2 million in grants and loans for a new water main in Bellwood; a $2.9 million loan for a new water treatment facility in Greenfield Township; and almost $3.1 million in grants and loans for replacing water pipes in Roaring Spring.

The 20-year loans all have interest rates of 1.743% to 2.179%.

“These are all worthwhile projects to ensure the residents of Blair County have access to safe drinking water. Some of the pipes that will be replaced were made with lead joints, and most of the communities will be adding fire hydrants as part of the projects,” Gregory said.

“Safe and reliable infrastructure to provide clean drinking water is essential for the viability and growth of our region,” Ward said. “PENNVEST’s critical investments in water infrastructure improvements for these four Blair County projects will help provide clean, lead-free drinking water for residents and businesses that rely upon these systems.”

Founded in 1988, PENNVEST provides low-interest loans for design, engineering and construction of publicly and privately owned drinking water distribution and treatment facilities, as well as storm water and wastewater projects.
