Gleim and Ward Announce Grant for Newville Yogurt Maker to Create and Market New Product

HARRISBURG – Rep. Barb Gleim (R-Cumberland) and Sen. Judy Ward (R-30) today announced that Healthy Mom yogurt processor in the 199th District has secured a $97,450 grant to begin developing a new product.

Healthy Mom, which does business as the Newville-based Maia Yogurt, secured the funds from the Pennsylvania Dairy Investment Program, and will now embark on the development of a new probiotic drink crafted to the needs and wants of consumers.

“This is a great development for our district and Newville Borough in particular,” Gleim said. “Healthy Mom already produces an excellent PA Preferred dairy product sourced from local farms and will now expand on that success with a new product line. Overall, this also benefits Cumberland County dairy producers and processors, who are innovative and hard working. We continue to support them and wish them continued success.”

“These kind of investments are a significant step toward sustainability for Pennsylvania’s dairy sector,” Sen. Ward said. “Helping dairy processors like Healthy Mom diversify, respond to consumer trends, and market their product will support the use of Pennsylvania dairy and help local dairy farmers.”

Healthy Mom will use data and consumer insights to create the right specific product, thoroughly research the process, and fine tune production through the long product development cycle. Once the new product passes the multiple rounds of testing, packaging and distribution-ready logistics will be then be created.
