State Grant Supports Completion of Mount Union Transportation Project

HARRISBURG – A grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) will support the completion of the Pennsylvania Avenue Linear Park Corridor project in Mount Union Borough in Huntingdon County, according to Senator Judy Ward (R-30).

The project will link the Mount Union Area School District and surrounding neighborhoods to the central business district on the southern side of the rail lines. It will also connect the Linear Park with the Riverside Trail in the northern end of Mount Union Borough, the Mid-State Trail, the 911 Memorial Trail, and the wider regional trail network.

“This project is a major step forward for the revitalization in Mount Union Borough by improving safety, maintaining access for all modes of traffic, and enabling the restoration of rail access,” Ward said. “I appreciate the fact that state officials recognized the importance of this project for the local community.”

The $1.2 million grant was awarded as part of PennDOT’s Multimodal Transportation Fund grant program.
